The Slave and The Lion

In Italy a long time ago there was a slave. His name was Androcles and he was a Negro. His master was very cruel. He was not treating Androcles properly. He was beating him and not giving adequate food to eat. So one day out of anger Androcles freed away from his masters home. 

After flee zing Androcles went inside a forest. He took shelter inside a cave to protect himself from cold, sun and wild animals. One day he heard a unusual roar of a lion. He observed lion from a distance. A sharp thorn had pierced in the front paw of the lion. Due to this the lion was unable to move properly. He was feeling pain by walking. Probably he was not taken food for many days. That is why he was roaring unusually.

After observing all this Androcles went near the lion very casually. The lion roar and try to scare Androcles. Due to the thorn in his paw it was very difficult and painful for him. Androcles carefully came near to the lion and causally remove that thorn from the lions paw. After removal of the thorn the lion able do his activities as earlier. After a few days he became normal. Androcles and the lion became friend.

After a few days Androcles master and his man came to the jungle. They searched Androcles everywhere. Finally they capture him and took away to the city. The master want to punish Androcles for his misbehavior. Initially he put him inside the jail and give him all types of structure.

One day the master declared that he will free Androcles if he can defeat a lion in a game in the arena. He fixed a date for the game show. Androcles was afraid to fight against the lion. He was praying the god to save his life. At last the date arrived. Androcles was pushed inside the game arena. Afterward they brought one hungry lion. They released the lion inside the game arena and closed the door. 

The hungry lion roared and rushed wards Androcles. Androcles prayed his god and did not losses his composer. The lion came very near to Androcles in an attacking mode. But surprisingly the lion changed his behavior. Instead of killing Androcles, he licked his food. The lion was the same lion from whose paw Androcles was removed that thorn.

All the people surprise to see the strange incident. They have not seen a friendship between a hungry lion and a man. They appreciated friendship of the lion and Androcles. So they liberated Androcles from the slavery.

The salt merchant and his donkey

Once a salt merchant leaving in a village. He had one donkey. he was taking salt to market putting on the back of the donkey. He was earning a decent profit out of it. He and his family leaving happily. There was a stream on the way to the market. On rainy season this stream passes over the road. 

One day it rain heavily in that eerier. The stream over flowed at that point of road. The salt merchant had to cross the stream to go to the market. As there was no provision to at that place. So he and his donkey have to cross by themselves. They try to cross the stream. As it was overflowing the water dissolved some salt from the back of the donkey. They crossed the stream and went to the other side of the road. The donkey observed that the load has reduced. So he felt happy and went to the merchant.

The next day again the master and the donkey reached the same point. This time the water level has reduced substantially. They could the donkey in order to reduced his burden lower himself in the water. In this process few salts dissolved the water. The donkey became happy. Because he got some relief. Then onward the donkey deliberately lowers himself in the water to reduce the burden. The master observed that and wants to teach a lesson to his donkey. After a few days the master has laden the donkey with sponge instinct of salt. As usual they went to the market in the regular path. 

Once again they came to that same point. The donkey in order to reduce the burden lowers himself in the water. This sponge absorbed lot many water. When they crossed the stream the donkey observed that the load has increased. The water in the sponge increases the load. It gave lot many troubles to the donkey. The donkey observed his folly on that day. Afterward he did not make any mischief like that, while crossing the stream.

The King and the Kind Deer

Once upon a time there was a king ruled in his kingdom. Nearby his kingdom there was a golden deer lived in a forest. It was very charming with beautiful eyes and a glowing skin. Whoever saw him was charmed by his beauty. He was very swift and nobody could ever catch him. He can run fast and hide himself in the bush if any dangers came to him.

The king of a nearby kingdom heard about the deer. He was filled with a desire to possess the deer. He was an expert hunter. One day, he set out to the forest, determined to catch the golden deer. When he and his soldiers reached the forest, they camped near a stream.

Next day, they went looking for the deer. After several hours, the king saw the glorious deer. He was charmed by deer’s beauty. He ordered his men to catch the deer alive. “In no case should the deer be killed.” He told his soldiers.

Seeing the king and his men, the deer ran into the deep forest. The king followed him and got separated from his solders. The deer ran very swiftly. The king also kept following him. However, he could not catch him. The deer was now tired. He hides himself behind a tall bush. The king could not see him. He was greatly disappointed. He had lost his way. He did not know where his men were. He decided to look for a way out of the forest.

As he moved forward, he fell into a deep water hole. The deer heard the flopping sound. He became sure that the king must have fallen into the water hole. He rushed to the water hole. The king was in the water and full of mud. There was nobody around who could help him out. The deer thought, “The king wants to catch me. Throughout the day, he was followed me. Now he has fallen into the water. If I do not help him, he will die. I cannot let him die.” So he decided to help him. He said to the king, “Dear majesty, I will help you out of the water. I am bowing my head down. Please hold onto my horns and I shall pull you out.”

The king held on to his horns and the deer pulled him out. The king thanked the deer and said, “You have helped me in spite of the fact that I wanted to catch you. I am grateful to you. Will you please come and stay with me in my palace. I promise that no harm shall ever come upon you.”

At this, the deer said, “Sir, I cannot be happy in the palace. This forest is my house. Please let me live here. I helped you because it was my duty to save you. I know you have lost your way and have been separated from your men. Follow me and I will lead you to them.”

The king followed the deer and soon found his soldiers. He wanted to reward the deer for his help. He said to him, “I want to reward you. Please tell me what you want me to do for you.”

The deer replied, “Sir if you really want to reward me, please promise that you will give up hunting of animals. Also promise that you will prohibit hunting in your kingdom.” The king promised him that from then onward, he would give up hunting and prohibited hunting in his kingdom. He then left the forest and came back to his kingdom. As soon as he reached the palace, he took out an order proclaiming that hunting was prohibited in his kingdom.

The Lier Shepherd boy and The Tiger

Once upon a time there was a small village named Manoharpur. A young boy named Mangal was living in that village. He was a very naughty and mischievous fellow. He was making mischief with everybody. He was not showing respect seniors and elders of that village. Due to this bad behaviour nobody as well as his parents were not happy with Mohan. 

Mangal’s father was a milkman by profession. Mangal was taking all their cows to the near by jungle for grazing for everyday. While going to the jungle on the way he was making jokes with everybody. One day in the jungle he made a fun with his fellow grazers. He shouted in his top voice that a tiger was attacking his cow. All the fellow grazers and the woodcutters ran to that place for helping the Mangal’s life. When they came there, they saw that Mangal’s cows were grazing safely. When they asked Mohan about the tiger, Mangal laughed and reduce them. All the fellow grazers and wood cutters got angry and went away theirs work. Mangal played the same trick next day. 

All the people came for his help. but Mohan make fun of them. All the people really angry with Mangal. They decided not to listen his word in the future. This way many days past. One day incidentally a tiger came and attack his cow. Mangal cried for help in top of his voice. He said this time he is telling the true and a tiger is attacking all his cows. But due to his past mischief nobody gave emphasis to his cry. 

Mangal in order to save his life climb the tree. He shouted for help. Nobody came to his rescue. They thought that the boy was playing the trick again. Mangal shouted and shouted, but in vain. None came to his help. The tiger killed all his cows and went away.

The Wood Cutter and Water God

Kalidas was a humble wood cutter. He was living in a village named Udayapur. The village was near by a dense forest. All the villagers were depending upon the forest for their lively hood. Kalidas was going regularly to collect firewood. He was shelling the wood in the near-by market. With that little earning he was managing his family.

Like the usual routine, one day he had gone to the forest to collect the firewood. He was cutting a tree near the river and misfortune struck him on that day. His axe slipped away from his hand and was lost in the river. He was a poor wood cutter and he had only one axe. On that day he had lost his only axe in the river. Thinking about the future he started weeping. His crying was intense  and disturbed the water god. The water god came in front of Kalidas and asked the reason for his crying. Kalidas explained everything in detail to the water god.  After listening to everything the water god plunged into the river. After a while he came out from the water with a golden axe. 

He showed the golden axe to Kalidas and asked “Is it yours?” Kalidas examined the golden axe and said “No my lord, it’s not mine.” Keeping the axe aside, the water god plunged into the river a second time. This time he came with a silver axe. He showed the silver axe to Kalidas and asked again “Is it yours?” 

Kalidas examined the axe and said “It is not mine. I am a poor wood cutter. How can I own a golden or silver axe! I have only an iron axe.” Listening to this the water god plunged once again inside the river. This time he came back with the iron axe of Kalidas. When Kalidas saw his axe he became very happy. He showed his gratefulness and respect to the river god. Seeing the honesty of Kalidas the water god gave the golden and silver axe as a gift to him with his original iron axe.
